Getting Started
|
 |
|
Welcome to the Network! If you are reading this page, chances are you have just been granted access to a new portal, just joined a company that is using our service, or are considering a proposal and have an active demo. In order to get you off on the right foot, here are some quick start instructions. A few tips:
- The "edit" icon looks like a small blue pencil (normally at the
bottom of a text section) - click on this and you will get a rich-text
editor (like a word processor) to modify a particular section;
- Everything on the site in admin view looks different; there is a
"Preview" mode to turn off most of the admin features (not all, but it
helps) - click the same icon to go back to edit mode;
- What you see in admin mode is ONLY visible to administrators;
other users that log in may see extra features, but only if admins can
see everything (we'll go over users & roles in more detail during
training);
- All the content is added through "modules", the most common being
a "Text/HTML" module - this sounds confusing at first, but there is a
really powerful reason. Anyway, you are not limited to just what you
see on a page - new modules of a variety of types can be added (such as
Documents, Links, Announcements, and lots of other cool stuff) - some
of them are easy, some take days to configure, but understanding that
modules drive content is important;
- There is a File Manager on the site for organizing critical
documents, images, etc. - this is for the admin view for viewing
everything - we would create separate download area for certain types
of users as necessary to protect critical areas from "general viewing"
(we also do this kind of thing for legal firms, etc.)
- Complex sites (such as the one we created for
www.leadershiphsv.org) can have hundreds of documents, lots of hidden
sections, special user-only modules, and dozens of role-types
(different types of committees, etc.).
We will be improving this section as we go along - your feedback is great, none of us can go back to being a first-time user again (we've been spoiled by knowing how things work), so let us know where you get stuck so that we can improve!
